Please read these Donations Terms, together with our Terms as a whole, carefully before making a donation. These Donation Terms apply together with our main Website Terms. You will need to read and agree to these Donations Terms each time you make a donation.

How to contact us

If you have any questions about these Donations Terms (or any donation you have made or would like to make), you can contact us by e-mailing giving@kcl.ac.uk. Alternatively, if you prefer to contact us by post, our address is King’s College London, Virginia Woolf Building, 22 Kingsway, London WC2B 6LE, United Kingdom.

Who can donate?

We take the protection of children’s personal information very seriously. As such, we will only collect or process information relating to a child (such as his or her name and email address) where it is necessary for us to do so in order to fulfil our contract with that individual (for example, if he or she makes a donation on our website).

How to make a donation

You can make a one-off donation of any amount (in pounds sterling) by following the process on our fundraising page, available at www.givingday.kcl.ac.uk. Please check the details of your donation carefully before confirming it. It is your responsibility to ensure these details are correct. This includes:

  • the amount of your donation;
  • any Gift Aid declaration (see What about Gift Aid?); and
  • any information you submit as part of your donation, such as your contact details and payment details.

When making your donation, you will be asked to provide details of the credit / debit card you wish to use to make that donation through Stripe (the payment processor). King’s will not itself process any of your payment details.

Please note: Stripe will charge you a fee for processing your donation (which it will deduct from your donation). Stripe will calculate this processing fee based on how much you donate (as a proportion of your donation) and deduct it from your donation before transferring the remainder to us. Please visit Stripe’s website https://stripe.com/en-gb for details of its processing fees. We are not in any way responsible for Stripe’s processing fee.

How to make a Challenge donation

You can make a Challenge donation of any amount (in pounds sterling) to the King's Global Day of Giving by following the process on our fundraising page, available at www.givingday.kcl.ac.uk. Please check the details of your donation carefully before confirming it. It is your responsibility to ensure these details are correct.

Challenge donations can either be set as a Donor Challenge, whereby the amount you have pledged to donate is released if a certain number of additional individuals donate to the Global Day of Giving; or a Donation Challenge whereby the amount you have pledged to donate is released if a certain number of additional individuals donate a certain amount of money to the Global Day of Giving. Both parameters will be set by you as the donor and must be met within the 36 hours spanning 8am (GMT) 4 April - 8pm (GMT) 5 April 2023.. You will receive an email to confirm the challenge has been set-up and an additional email when the challenge has been completed and the agreed amount has been debited from your account.

How we acknowledge your donation

Once we have received confirmation that your payment has been authorised by Stripe, we will e-mail you to acknowledge receipt of your donation. Please let us know as soon as possible if you do not receive an e-mail acknowledging your donation.

How will your donation be spent?

The King’s Global Day of Giving is made up of two key areas. You can find further information about each of these areas via the website www.givingday.kcl.ac.uk.

When making a donation we will ask you to select the area that you are most interested in supporting. Please contact us if you would like to find out more (see How to contact us).

What about Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a scheme which allows Charities to reclaim basic rate tax paid on any money donated to them by UK taxpayers either at a basic rate of 20% or a higher rate of 40%.

When making a donation we will ask if you would like to add “Gift Aid”. Adding Gift Aid means we can reclaim the tax on your donation and receive an extra 25p from the Government for every £1 you donate. This means that if you donate £10 and use Gift Aid, it is actually worth £12.50. It will not cost you any more.

You can use Gift Aid if the amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax you have paid, in any tax year (from 6th April one year to 5th April the next) covers the amount of tax we will reclaim on your donations.

To qualify for Gift Aid you must be a UK taxpayer and meet the requirements of the Government Gift Aid scheme (which may change from time to time). It is your responsibility to determine whether you are eligible for Gift Aid, and we are unable to give you any form of legal, financial or tax advice. If you are eligible, we will ask you to tick a box to declare it. You can find out more about the Gift Aid scheme here.

If you no longer pay UK tax at any time after making a donation and declaring you are eligible for Gift Aid, you must let us know (see How to contact us).

Will your donation be visible to others?

When making a donation we will ask how you would like us to display your contribution on our online donor wall and donations page. You may choose to show your name and the amount of your donation; your name only; or remain anonymous. See our Privacy Policy to find out more about how we handle your personal information.

When will we refund your donation?

We will only cancel and refund your donation in limited circumstances. For example, we will do so if:

  • we reasonably suspect you are not permitted to make a donation under these Donations Terms (for example, if you are under 18), or the donation has not been properly authorised; or
  • we make a mistake and do not request the right amount of money from your credit / debit card.

We cannot refund your donation if you change your mind. However, if you make a mistake when making a donation or if someone has used your credit / debit card fraudulently to make a donation, please contact us immediately (see How to contact us).

How we will use the personal information you give to us when you make a donation

We will handle any personal information that you provide to us in connection with a donation in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Other important terms

Each of the paragraphs of these Donations Terms operates separately. If any court or relevant authority decides that any of them are unlawful, the remaining paragraphs will remain in full force and effect.

No one other than you and us will be able to enforce any part of these Donation Terms.

These Donations Terms are governed by English law. You and we agree to submit all disputes arising out of or in connection with these Donations Terms to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts, except that if you are a resident of Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in Northern Ireland, and if you are resident of Scotland, you may also bring proceedings in Scotland.

We may need to change these Donations Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law. Please read these Donations Terms carefully each time you make a donation.
